Summer Nights in St Kilda

23 Nov 2018

When the balmy summer evenings roll around, Melbourne’s southside is the place for an evening adventure. The best part? Getting there and back is easy.

Hop on a route 16 tram bound for Melbourne’s summer hot spot, St Kilda Beach. When you see the conspicuous entry to Luna Park [18 Lower Esplanade, St Kilda] – Mr Moon’s giant mouth – it will be time to hop off the tram. Take advantage of Luna Park’s extended summer hours and $2 entry-only ticket (don’t worry, it can be upgraded to a ride ticket at any time). Enjoy taking your mates on at a few carnival games or, if you’re with your loved one, head to the Scenic Railway for some stunning sunset views over Port Phillip Bay.

When you’re done with the Luna Park fun, take a short stroll over to the aptly named Big Mouth [168 Acland Street, St Kilda]. Here you can enjoy crumbed barramundi tacos, southern fried chicken burgers or a classic parma. Pair your meal with your favourite ale or wine and enjoy the beats pumping through this sleek yet relaxed restaurant.

Your next stop is for dessert. Make a beeline towards Brighton Road to hop on a route 67 tram that will take you to Elsternwick. Hop off when you reach Glenhuntly Road, then take a short stroll to Will’s Batch Ice Cream [300 Glen Huntly Road, Elsternwick]. Made daily in small batches, you’ll find an impressive array of flavours at this ice cream and gelato emporium — and with unusual options like blueberry lemonade or lavender, it’s certainly not your typical gelateria.

Keen to kick on? Do it in style by taking a short stroll up to Antique Bar [218 Glen Huntly Road, Elsternwick]. It exudes old- world glamour, so take a seat on one of the luxe Victorian lounges and cheers with your craft beer or boutique wine.

No matter how late your evening escapade goes, Night Network will get you back to your hotel in the city with ease. When you’re ready to call it a night, hop back on a route 67 tram or on a train from Elsternwick Station — both run all night long on weekends thanks to Night Network.

There’s an app for that…
